Abstract:
|
The major goal of this thesis is to broaden and deepen our understanding on major actors in the mutual fund market. Doing so, it is based on a collection of four individuals papers that analyze 1) how private investors select mutual funds and specifically which investors choose active funds, 2) whether mutual fund ratings are helpful in the fund selection process and how they could be improved, 3) how simple portfolio diversification strategies, that might be considered particularly suitable for private investors, perform relative to complex optimization techniques, and 4) under which situations mutual fund managers are most likely to display superior stock selection skills.
