Abstract: This study shows that pursuit of goals associated with sovereignty (i.e. independent and sustainable power over the firm) is a pivotal antecedent of the link between stakeholder orientation and family involvement. We argue that this is due to organizational legitimacy concerns and family-firm identity fit arising from sovereignty pursuit.
