Abstract: Wireline OFDM systems (e.g. ADSL[2+], VDSL and customized applications in process data communication) are affected by narrowband interference (NBI) as emitted for example by HAM radio or non-EMC-compatible devices. Due to the low spectral selectivity of the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) NBI has a |wideband effect on the transmission system which can be reduced by using an equalizer compensation matrix whose coefficients have to be adapted to any occurring NBI online. However this adaption is time consuming. The latency until the compensation is fully operative is to be shortened. We propose to compute equalizer coefficients virtually offline for a simplified noise model using parameters derived from the currently observed NBI and to take these as initial equalizer set-up to shorten the period of optimization.
