In this paper, we analyze approaches to the semi-automatic conversion of document indices as being used in conventional search engines to semantically enriched Topic Map structures. The examination exclusively draws upon statistical methods, so that to a certain extent the results can be viewed as being valid independently of the programming language used for an implementation.
