Abstract: The goal of this research was to develop and validate a method for the unobtrusive and temporary manipulation of self-esteem. The method, called "Method for Subliminal Self-Esteem Manipulation" (MSSM), is intended for use in experimental research on the consequences of self-esteem. The MSSM consists of the simultaneous subliminal presentation of either positive or negative adjectives (e.g., "good", "bad") on the one hand and a self-related word ("I") on the other. Four experiments are presented that were designed to validate the MSSM. Participants were students at the University of Mannheim. Exp. 1 (N

Translation of the abstract: Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, eine Methode zur unterschwelligen und kurzfristigen Manipulation von Selbstwert zu entwickeln. Exp. 1 (N (German)
