Abstract: The multiplexing potential of Angle Division Multiplexing is investigated in terms of performance, handling, robustness and fabrication tolerance. To this end, the influence of roughness at the fiber interface and the wave front at the fiber aperture are analyzed. The feasibility of a connector interface at the multimode step-index fiber is experimentally investigated. The robusstness of an ADM interconnection against environmental stress is explored. This feasibility of micro-integrated passive-optical MUX and DeMUX units is shown by means of tolerance analysis. A new concept is proposed which allows for parallel interconnection of planar transmitter/receiver arrays.
