Abstract: This paper presents a method for analyzing learner behavior and|performance in a simulation-based educational application. The method was developed for an experiment that has been conducted at the University of Mannheim in the summer term of 2002. The experiment was designed to study the impact of different types of instruction on the improvement of students' knowledge. To collect the appropriate data, an extension of the program was developed that logs the user interactions combined with the current state of the simulation. This enables the instructors to classify different learning strategies by their quality and user type. The experiment was conducted in cooperation with a team of psychologists and was funded by SAP AG.
